Amboseli National Park and Maasai Mara
Amboseli National park in Kajiado South is at the core of an ecosystem with intensive agriculture and a successful tourist-driven economy. The park is among the world’s best wildlife-viewing experiences with over 400 bird species. Waterbirds include crakes, kingfishers, pelicans, and hamerkop. Amboseli is the perfect place in the world for a closer view of free-ranging elephants and a good view of the world’s highest free standing mountain, Mt. Kilimanjaro.
A contrast exists between the oasis of the swamps and the dry lake bed arid area. The protected area houses African bush elephant, Cape buffalo, lion, impala, Grant’s Zebra, blue wildebeest, Masai Giraffe, Spotted hyena, and cheetah.
An Overview of Maasai Mara National Reserve
In Narok Kenya is a large national game reserve, Maasai Mara, contagious with Serengeti National Park. It’s a world-renowned reserve for its exceptional populations of African Leopard, lion, African bush elephant, and cheetah. The Great Migration, which is one of the natural wonders, is hosted here. July to October is the great migration season in search of fresh pasture from Serengeti plains to Maasai reserve of the wildebeest, zebra, topi, and Thomson’s gazelle. The numbers of wildebeests, the dominant inhabitants here, are estimated in millions.
All the big five members are found here throughout the year. It’s a protected area for the indigenous black rhino population in Kenya. There are large groups of Crocodiles and hippopotami in the Talek and Mara rivers. The plains between Esoit Siria Escarpment and Mara River offer the best game viewing area, particularly for cheetah and lion.
Mara is home to the distinctive Masai giraffe, antelopes, impalas, Grant’s gazelles, and the nocturnal bat-eared fox. Several birds are migrants, but those that call Mara home for the greater part of the year include ostriches, vultures, hornbills, long-crested eagles, secretary birds, and crowned cranes.
